I agree with Mike on the Swan Lake Waltz. It's featured in too frequently in popular media to be omitted. I hear it constantly, including (in the popular movie my kids love) at the ending of Despicable Me.
Wanna thank you for participating in these forums. We very much appreciate your passion, input and support.
We do have the beginnings of a Kickass Classical Top 300. Like the Top 200 was for nearly two years, it's a work in progress.
As we populate this list, please think of it as an opportunity to include pieces that should have been included in the Top 100 or Top 200, rather than an opportunity to dig deeper. A subtle philosophical difference perhaps, but important because...
The Top 300 will be our final list. Anything beyond that is wandering into a field of depth not intended for this website, and better left to the classical music snobs.
A few other things to address...
Mozart favoritism. Yep, guilty. It's what we've observed in our research, as Mozart is one of the most compelling music figures with the most "hits." By the way, there's more Tchaikovsky than anyone else, but no one's complaining about him ;)
Movie music. We have no plans to include any more movie music, soundtrack or score, in the Top 300. No Williams, Morricone, Mancini, Jarre, etc. There's the Imperial March at #50 to make a statement and that's it. Maybe for our Top Themes page.
Showtunes. None of those either. No Gilbert And Sullivan. No Andrew Lloyd Weber. God bless 'em. Again, maybe for our Top Themes page.
Pop. None of that either. No Joplin. No Ragtime. See our Top Themes page.
Agreed on Swan Lake Waltz. It's #141 :)
Finally, we would be eternally grateful if before posting you took the time to review the Top 100, Top 200 and Top 300 (such as it is).
My bad with Swan Lake Waltz:) I just looked over Top 200 list and didnt realize its actually in:)
Anyway, there's a ton of Tchaikovsky because his music is very frequently used (everywhere) and I'd say he had have kinda the Beatles or Queen ability to produce a hit:) He is also my favorite composer so how can I complain:)
