Do You Recognize It?

What's that classical music I heard?

Do You Recognize It?

Postby JPJP » Tue May 24, 2011 10:31 pm

I heard a little of this piece used as a musical background for the news a journalist used to send from the Cannes 2011 Film Festival. It was played by all the orchestra (or at least by many string instruments-violins, I think). To me it sounded romantic and maybe a little sad. I do not know if it is music composed especially for a movie or it is "classical" music, but I am sure it is well-known. It sounds approximately like this:

c'4 d'4 e'4 f'4 g'2 g'2 a'2 a'2 g'1

where the letters are musical notes and the figures are: 1=whole note, 2=half note and 4=quarter note; the apostrophes are just separators.

I am sorry I cannot offer more details. Thank you in advance for your time, understanding and help for identifying this musical piece,

JP

Twitter user PROJECT Trio says it could be "Hatikva," the national anthem of Israel.

Any luck?

Twitter user scheimer mentioned that Hatikvah shares the same musical roots as another classical piece, "Die Moldau" from "My Country" by Bedrich Smetana.

Bullseye!

I would like to thank both Twitter users, PROJECT Trio and scheimer, for pointing me in the right direction. Indeed, this is the theme I was looking for!

And last but not least, thank you kickassclassical for all the added info and the intermediation!

Has anybody told you lately that this service (classical music pieces identification) is REALLY super-efficient? My sincerest congratulations!
