What's that classical music I heard?

Please Help!

Postby olivert » Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:22 pm

I was watching the BBC programme ''Portillo on Salmond'' the other night and suddenly recognised a classical piece which I was unable to name. It has been driving me crazy, and I would so appreciate any help you guys could give me. Thanks in advance!

I can begin identifying it at 04:25, but it is probably best heard from 04:55 onwards.

That's the popular second movement (Allegretto) of Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major. It has been featured in films including Zardoz, Frances, Mr. Holland's Opus, The Fall, and The King's Speech (in that order).

However, I'm more interested in the music that starts at 9:02. It sounds like a marimba, but I don't recognize the melody.
